Flour Tortillas

We have never been fond of store bought tortillas.  We find them gummy and tasteless.  Imagine our surprise when we made these 5 ingredient tortillas in less time then it would take to go to the store and back.  We use them when making falafels, burritos, quesadillas, fajitas and vegetable wraps.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups unbleached flour
  • 1 teas salt
  • 1 teas baking powder
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup warm water

Directions

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer add flour, salt and baking powder.  Mix with the dough hook.  With the mixer running add the oil and the warm water mixing until the dough forms a smooth ball.
  2. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and divide into 12 equal portions (approx 65g), shaping into balls and flattening with your hand.  cover and let rest 30 minutes.
  3. After dough has rested heat a non-stick griddle or fry pan.  Roll each piece of dough into a 9″ circle (do not stack them as they will stick together) and place on the griddle.  Let cook 1 minute or until the dough starts to bubble and the bottom starts to brown.  Flip and cook the other side about 30 seconds.

We fill these with Falafel Burgers with all the fixings and the Tahini Sauce
