Snickerdoodles

We have been making these cookies for more than 25 years.  They are quick and easy using common pantry ingredients and the recipe makes a lot of cookies…..about 6 dozen.  The cookie has a unique crackled appearance.  I’ll bet you can’t eat just one.

Cookie

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teas vanilla
  • 2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teas cream of tartar
  • 1 teas baking soda
  • 3/4 teas salt

Cookie Coating

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teas cinnamon

Directions

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer add the butter, shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla and mix until light and creamy.
  2. Combine the flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt in another bowl.  Gradually add to creamed mixture and mix until combined.
  3. Shape into 1″ balls.
  4. Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.  Roll the balls to coat.
  5. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet leaving room for the cookies to spread.  Bake at 375 for 12-15 minutes.
