Well, this is the first time in the past three or four years that we were able to beat the birds to the mulberries! And they are so delicious! It has made our vigilance, the daily monitoring, everything short of camping out under the tree, worthwhile!
Our mulberry tree stands just under six feet tall with a canopy of branches that reach to the ground and fruits every year. However, the birds, especially the Blue Jays, like the berries as much as us. There is a very small window where the fruit becomes ripe and they swoop in. We believe that they don’t like their berries as ripe as we do so this gives them a bit of an edge. 🙂
