Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups flour
- 1 teas ginger
- 3/4 teas baking soda
- 1/2 teas cinnamon
- 1/4 teas nutmeg
- 1/4 teas allspice
- 1/4 teas cloves
- 1/4 teas salt
- 1/4 cup margarine
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg or egg replacer
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups hot water
- 5 tbls margarine
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease an 8 X 8 baking dish.
- Beat butter and sugar until well combined,
- Combine flour, ginger, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves and salt in another bowl.
- Combine molasses and warm water together in another bowl.
- Mix flour mixture into margarine mixture alternately with the molasses mixture mixing well. Transfer to prepared baking dish and sprinkle the top with the brown sugar.
- Combine 1 1/2 cups hot water and the 5 tbls of margarine in a glass measuring cup and carefully pour over the batter.
- Bake 35-40 min, until top is crackled looking. Remove from oven and let cool at least 15 min.
